Air Marshal Sir John Curtiss:

Air Marshal Sir John Curtiss flew as a navigator with 578 squadron then with the air transport force in the 1948 Berlin Airlift later he specialised as a night-fighter navigator. He served on a strategic nuclear V-bomber base and later commanded a large RAF air base in Germany at the height of the Cold War. After serving in a senior appointment at No 11 (Fighter) Group, he was appointed as the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) No 18 Group. Later he served as Air Marshal directing air operations in the 1982 Falklands campaign. Curtiss was appointed CB (1979) and KCB (1981).

Memorial Service 2013 Information for Saturday 18th May:

The 2013 annual 578 Squadron Association reunion will take place Friday 17th May - Sunday 19th May. A Service of remembrance will be held at Selby Abbey Saturday 18th May at 10:30am. This will be followed by a visit to the Halifax at the Yorkshire Air Museum.
All are welcome to attend.
